Greetings from the East.
I write to you today to express my concern with the participation and engagement of the brotherhood. We have all stood before the altar and been charged with our orders as a Master Mason. As life goes on, we find that our cabletow can get tighter at times, and when loosened again, it may be easier to relax at home or with other friends. This has become all to common in our lodge and the physical, financial, and spiritual effects are evident at our stated and emergent communications.
Unfortunately, we are not the only lodge in our building, and district, that is experiencing this phenomenon. It has been growing throughout the craft year after year. Officers speak of re-engaging the brotherhood to grow from within, yet the response is often waning.
Because of these factors, we have begun to consider consolidating our lodge with another lodge at the GSO Masonic Temple. They are experiencing the same sort of troubles with engagement and attendance we are. We feel that combining our lodges can strengthen our efforts in participation and engagement of brothers who have long been part of the sideline.
The Master summons you, if within the length of your cabletow, to attend our regularly scheduled stated communication on Monday, November 19th at 7:30 for an open discussion of this idea. This will just be a discussion of how the brethren feel. It is a chance to voice your opinion on the matter and hear what others in the lodge have to say. No vote will be taken on moving forward with this matter. If you would like to review the process of merging a lodge, you may find it in Chapter 48 of the Grand Lodge CODE.
Again brothers, this is a serious topic not to be considered lightly. If we weren’t in such a trying situation, we wouldn’t be considering this. That is why it is imperative we have as much participation as possible. Please look to your heart and consider what is best for the good of Masonry.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Steven Caldwell, Senior Deacon 2018
